Why I Wrote This Ebook:

Hi, I’m Désirée, a professional self-portrait photographer and educator.

When I first started taking self-portraits, I felt frustrated all the time.

Everything seemed so complicated:

First, I didn’t know how to trigger the camera remotely. I tried using a wired remote, and all the images I took with it ended up being blurry.

Next, I had no clue how to light my self-portraits. There wasn’t much natural light in my relatively dark flat, so I had to use artificial lighting.

However, studio lighting felt very intimidating; I didn’t know what gear to buy or what camera settings to use.

And even if I got a decent shot, I didn’t know how to edit it – I was confused as to which editing steps to do in which order or how to save and export my files.

Also, whenever I sent images to the printer, they came out looking totally different from how I imagined them.

My other big problem was idea development. I had many random ideas, but I didn’t know how to combine and refine them to create meaningful, evocative images.

I cannot tell you how many times I wanted to give up because I got yet another blurry picture, couldn’t get the flash to work, accidentally deleted my editing file, etc.

But then, over the years, I slowly gathered some skills.

I watched hundreds of tutorials, took many online courses, visited workshops and read countless books.

Every year, my images improved.

The process became smoother, and every little success motivated me to further my skills.

I’ve now been taking self-portraits for almost 10 years, and I enjoy the process so much more these days because I feel so much more confident about all the aspects I used to struggle with.

Since I know how difficult it is to take self-portraits, I am passionate about educating others on the topic because there actually aren’t that many resources out there.

I already run a blog and a YouTube channel focused on the topic of self-portrait photography.

However, I wanted to create an even more comprehensive resource: a complete guide on taking pro-level self-portraits at home.

I’ve put all my knowledge and expertise into these pages so you can avoid trial and error and learn to take beautiful self-portraits in no time.
